Frequently Asked Questions

We get it…checking out a new church can be a bit intimidating. So, we want to give you as much information as we can to make it a little easier to connect with us.

Q:  Where is the church located?
A:  Hillside is located at 103 North Ford Street, about one mile north of downtown Golden.

Q:  What time does your Sunday service start and how long does it last?
A:  Our worship service begins at 10:00am and ends around 11:30am. Live streaming of the service is available on YouTube.

Q:  Where do I park and where do I go when I get there?
A:  There is parking in the upper and lower parking lots adjacent to the church. If the parking lots are full, you can park on the streets near the church. After you park, just come in the big front doors and we will point you in the right direction from there.

Q:  What denomination is the church?
A:  Hillside was started as a Southern Baptist church plant, and we are still affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Like most Southern Baptist churches, we are a self-directed church. The church is led by a group of elders elected by the congregation. If you’re curious about our beliefs, please check out the “What We Believe” section on our website.

Q:  What is the congregation like?
A:  We have a wonderful community of friendly and welcoming people. One of the primary messages of our church is grace. We’re all doing the best we can to follow Jesus, but we recognize that no one is perfect and that we're all “still happening.” We have people from all age groups, including lots of young families.

Q:  Are all Sundays the same?
A:  A typical Sunday includes worship music and a sermon. On the first Sunday of each month, we share communion together and instead of a sermon, we have special messages, testimonies and/or ministry updates usually followed by a barbecue or potluck.

Q:  What style of worship music can I expect?
A:  Our worship team leads us in God-honoring contemporary worship music. We have a full band, but we believe that the purpose of worship music is to worship the Lord, not entertain.

Q:  What is the preaching like?
A:  We have three pastors that preach on a rotating basis. We typically preach passage by passage through a book of the Bible, but we occasionally teach topically. We are currently going through the book of Romans. Messages are usually 25-35 minutes long.

Q:  What should I wear?
A:  We are a casual church. Lots of people come in jeans or shorts, but some people dress up a bit. Wear whatever is comfortable for you.

Q:  How many people attend on a Sunday morning?
A:  Our sanctuary holds about 240 people, and we typically have 200+ attendees on Sunday morning. We have a lot of young families, so you’ll see lots of kids around!

Q:  Do you have any kids programs?
A:  We do! We provide childcare and Sunday School for infants through 5th grade. Infants can go to the nursery anytime. Kids start in the service and then are released to age-appropriate Sunday School classes after the first set of worship music.

Q:  Do you have any programs for youth?
A:  Yes, we have a youth group for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers that meets on Sunday mornings during the service and on Sunday evenings.

Q:  Is it okay if my kids stay in the service with me instead of going to Sunday School or youth group?
A:  Of course! Kids are welcome in the sanctuary during the service.

Q:  Do you allow food and drink in the service?
A:  Yes, we do. In fact, we have a wonderful coffee shop at the church with specialty coffee drinks and free bagels.

Q:  What are some ways to get involved in the church?
A:  There are lots of ways to get involved. We have women’s, men's, young adults, youth, children’s, prayer, and small group ministries. We’re also connected to a number of other ministries in the Golden community. Check out the “Ministries” section of our website for more information.
